Budboo Feels Weak? My Lv.7 Horde Setup Works at Any Tier

My Clash of Critters Budboo Horde build uses Waveflutter, Bane stacks, and temporary Lv.7 shadow attacks without requiring a permanent T3 evolution.

Introduction

I nearly judged Budboo by the wrong fight. At T1, its Poison shot arrives slowly. In Gold Rush, another Tatari can hit the lane sooner. Then I put it beside Waveflutter in Horde Invasion and stopped caring whether my plant was permanently T1, T2, or T3.

Horde gives Budboo a separate temporary upgrade path. At Lv.3, Poison starts the Bane engine. Lv.5 sends five shadows. Lv.7 adds a boss-priority attack that doubles existing Bane stacks. Those extra hits can also feed Waveflutter's Slow and Sleep effect.

I no longer ask whether Budboo is a universal Grass carry. I ask whether I can protect one Waveflutter tile, reach Lv.7, and let Poison and shadow hits control late waves.

Quick answer

My Budboo Horde Invasion plan is:

  1. I place Budboo in Waveflutter's area, usually toward an outer wall.
  2. I keep Sealoon closer to the middle so its bouncing attack can cover more lanes.
  3. I upgrade Budboo to temporary Lv.7 instead of stopping at Lv.3 or Lv.5.
  4. I use Poison to add Bane, then let the five-shadow and boss-priority attacks build Slow into Sleep.
  5. I judge the slot against Zapantler, Voltmare, Frostluna, or another real alternative, not against an empty tile.

Permanent T2 is my favorite value point because Snapshade fires three venomous seeds. T3 adds useful Poison zones, but Horde value does not require me to finish T3 first.

What each permanent tier changes

Budboo at T1 fires normal seeds, then sends a venomous seed around every fourth attack. Poison lasts 5 seconds with damage ticking once per second. One application can begin the Horde Bane chain after Lv.3.

T2 Snapshade changes the special attack from one venomous seed to three. The shots spread at angles and do not pierce. That creates two very different results.

With distance, the seeds can reach separate lanes. When an enemy stands directly in front, all three can crash into it. A dangerous target gets the full volley, but the broad coverage disappears.

T3 Thornwisp leaves a Poison zone for about 4 seconds where each seed lands. I treat T2 as the value breakpoint and T3 as a formation upgrade, not an entry ticket for Horde.

For a deeper permanent evolution decision, I use my Budboo T3 Poison Zone guide. This setup is about temporary Horde levels.

My placement rule before I buy levels

I put Budboo in the back and leave travel space in front. In chapters, a back position can send angled shots toward outer lanes. A close placement often dumps everything into the first body.

Waveflutter makes the angle useful. Nearby damage adds Slow and can progress toward Sleep. Budboo's seeds create separate opportunities when they connect. I have watched clouds appear on both sides after the spread reached different enemies.

I have confirmed the direct Poison shots working with Waveflutter. I do not assume every Poison-zone tick behaves identically. If the pools matter, I watch the enemy status instead of trusting the animation.

Why Horde changes Budboo's value

Gold Rush rewards immediate lane results. Horde rewards repeated effects across long waves. Budboo fits the second job much better.

Permanent tier affects stats and the normal skill, but Horde adds temporary breakpoints. A T1 Budboo can reach them during the match, which makes the base form usable on a developing account.

A stronger permanent Budboo should hit harder and survive better. The Bane and shadow package still comes from temporary Lv.3, Lv.5, and Lv.7.

How I build around Waveflutter

Waveflutter has several nearby tiles competing for attackers and utility. I do not remove a proven carry automatically.

Sealoon stays near the middle. Its bouncing ball applies Weaken and reaches more lanes from there. I am not eager to run two when the second slot can add another job.

Budboo can sit farther toward a wall while staying inside Waveflutter's area. That keeps the center open and lets angled seeds travel across the outer side. Other candidates for these tiles include Silversear, Frostluna, Zapantler, and Voltmare.

If Lv.7 Budboo improves the late waves less than another candidate, the plant loses the slot. New does not mean employed forever.

Temporary Lv.3 starts Bane

At temporary Lv.3, inflicting Poison has a chance to apply one Bane stack. Applying Bane can also deal small area damage.

Bane lingers, stacks, and deals continuous damage. I want stacks established before the stronger shadows arrive. T1 can do this; T2 and T3 get more chances through the three-seed spread.

This is a useful start, but I do not stop at Lv.3 when Budboo is a core Horde slot.

Temporary Lv.5 sends five shadows

Lv.5 periodically launches five shadows. Each deals single-target damage and adds one Bane stack. The shadows pierce enemies already carrying Bane.

Five hits also improve the Waveflutter pairing. Repeated damage adds Slow pressure that can progress into Sleep. I get more trigger opportunities without waiting for the normal Poison cycle.

Some support Tatari are fine at Lv.5. Budboo is not one I leave there when I can afford the last breakpoint.

Temporary Lv.7 is the reason I commit

Lv.7 summons a larger shadow attack that deals area damage, applies one Bane stack, and doubles the enemy's current stacks. It prioritizes bosses.

That order matters. I want Poison and Lv.5 shadows working first, then Lv.7 doubles a healthier stack instead of hitting a fresh boss.

Boss priority helps Waveflutter control the enemy I care about most. Sleep does not replace damage, but one stopped attack can preserve the formation.

Where I do not force Budboo

I do not rate Budboo highly for Gold Rush attack, defense, or Arena. The special interval feels slow, and the slot must beat Tatari that contribute more often.

Chapters are more reasonable. Grass damage helps into Water, the spread can touch outer lanes, and T3 pools punish a packed frontline. I still change Quick Deploy and protect Budboo.

Horde remains my first destination because long fights reward Bane stacking and temporary Lv.7 gives the line a complete job.

Mistakes I avoid

  1. I do not place T2 Budboo close to the frontline and then complain that the three seeds never spread.
  2. I do not assume permanent T3 is required for the Horde shadow skills.
  3. I do not stop at temporary Lv.5 when Budboo is supposed to be a main Horde investment.
  4. I keep Sealoon's broad coverage near the middle instead of crowding that tile with Budboo.
  5. I compare Budboo with the Tatari removed from the formation. A fun combo can still lower the final score.

Final take

Budboo is not my answer for every mode. It is a flexible Horde project that can start working at permanent T1, improves sharply at T2, and gains better path control at T3.

I keep it behind the fight, place it inside Waveflutter's area, and buy temporary Lv.7. Poison starts Bane, five shadows spread more stacks, and the final attack doubles them on bosses. That is enough of a job to earn testing. The scoreboard decides whether it keeps the tile.

FAQ

Is Budboo good in Horde Invasion at T1?

Yes. Permanent T1 Budboo can reach the temporary Horde breakpoints during the run. At Lv.3, its Poison can start applying Bane. T2 and T3 improve coverage, stats, and normal combat value, but they are not required to unlock the temporary shadow skills.

What temporary level should Budboo reach in Horde Invasion?

I take Budboo to Lv.7 when it occupies a core slot. Lv.3 starts Bane, Lv.5 sends five stacking and piercing shadows, and Lv.7 adds area damage, another stack, Bane doubling, and boss priority.

Where should I place Budboo with Waveflutter?

I place Budboo in Waveflutter's area with open travel space in front, often toward an outer wall. Sealoon or another broad central utility piece keeps the middle tile while Budboo uses angled seeds and shadows from the side.

Is T2 or T3 Budboo better value?

T2 is my value breakpoint because Snapshade changes one venomous seed into three. T3 is stronger when the 4-second Poison zones land on busy paths, but I do not rush it only to use the Horde temporary skills.

Does Budboo work in Gold Rush?

It can work, but I do not force it into Gold Rush attack or defense. The Poison attack interval feels slow compared with faster alternatives. I prefer Budboo in Horde and use repeated battle reports before replacing an established Gold Rush Tatari.
